If I analyzed my language of love, it would probably be “time spent.” Spending time with people is important to me- really important. And when someone chooses to spend time with me, I’m really grateful. And if that someone has driven 14 hours to do so, I’m downright honored.
Janet and Roberto did just that. These newlyweds, after spending a week driving across the country from Worcester, Mass to Oakland, CA (their new home), decided that another couple days on the road would be worth it if they could check out Phoenix, my baby, and see me for a bit.

They had never seen a desert before, and certainly nothing as grand as the Sonoran with actual saguaro cacti!! It was a novelty. And they wanted to be photographed with one.

And then I gave them some useful information about desert living, which may or may not be true. For instance, I told them that this was the jumping cactus, whose needles will jump from the cactus onto your skin.
Of course they had to try it.

They got a great view of the Superstitions.

Benjy got cranky.

And so I got a quick portrait with the two of them before heading home.

They’re now back in Oakland, ready to face real life. Best of luck, Janet and Roberto. I’m so thrilled I got to spend some time with you.
